Caring for Chiffon and Satin
Delicate fabrics last for years with a gentle wash, shade drying and a little patience with the iron.

Chiffon and satin are chosen for how they move and catch the light. The same qualities make them sensitive to heat and rough handling. A few habits keep them looking new.
Washing
Wash by hand in cool water with a mild detergent, or use a mesh laundry bag on the gentlest machine cycle. Wash dark and bright colours separately the first few times. Do not wring; press the water out between two towels.
Drying
Hang in the shade on a wide hanger, or lay flat. Direct sun fades colour and a tumble dryer can pull the weave.
Ironing
Use the lowest heat setting, iron on the reverse side, and place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric. A steamer held a short distance away is gentler still.
Storing
Hang satin so it does not crease, and keep beaded or embellished pieces in a garment bag so nothing snags. Give each piece a little room; fabric that can breathe keeps its shape.
